college bound

Dear College Bound Students,
College is going to be the best time of your life but only if you know what you are getting into. I realize that half of you probably already have senioritis, as did I when I was a senior. College is not only a time to have fun but it is also time for you to settle down and think about your future. Most of you probably think that high school is going to be a breeze and you can just get by without trying, but little do most students know that what you do in high school effects your future for choices in life and in college. To me there are three important things that college bound student need to know.
First thing a college bound student should know is that just getting by in high school is not the smartest decision. They need to learn while they are in high school, good study habits because that will help them when they enter college. Good note taking is something I wish I would have learned how to do because I find myself taking more notes than ever now. Especially since it’s not done on a power point nor a projector you actually have to pay attention and listen to what is going on so you can transfer those thoughts onto paper as your study guide. Note taking is the first piece of advice I have for a senior.
Second piece of advice would be to search around for their books instead of just going to the bookstores that the institution offers because as I learned when I got here you can definitely find a better deal on books. Most students do not really even care to look around for the cheaper price because if their parents are willing to pay for the books they could careless as long as they do not have to pay for it. Even though my parents could care less about me looking around for the cheaper books it still wouldn’t be bad because I could spend the money on clothes or something else other than books. It also would be better for more teens that have to pay for their own college to know that they can get books for cheap because that would definitely help them out as well.
Last but not least I would have to say try and room with someone you know because after getting here and meeting people that did pot luck not everyone had the best of luck. One of my good friends did pot luck and her roommate and she are total opposites that do not get along. At one point my friend was sleeping and started talking in her sleep, and then she woke up to her roommate standing over her asking if she was okay. Honestly that is pretty creepy so I definitely advice a senior to at least try and get to know your roommate before you move in either facebook them or call them because it’s like Forest Gump said life is like a box of chocolates you never know what you’re going to get.
There are many different things a college bound seniors should know before they enter into college but many senior students do not want to listen, however, once they get into college they will realize it is not as easy as they think. Most students just think that going off to college is a time to party and get away from their parents causing them to go a little wild when they get away, but that is definitely not the smartest thing to do. College is a time for students to sit down and get their life in order I just wish that students in high school would start thinking about their decisions sooner than later because what they do in high school does affect their decisions later on.

The media's effect on College.

I feel like the media did not have much effect on me because I already had a good idea from other people. I did watch a show on sororities in college and that show made me think differently about sororities. After watching the show it made me think if I wanted to be in a sorority or not. The show advertised sororities very differently then what I have experienced so far, but the fact is the media made me second guess my thoughts on sororities. Now that I am in a sorority I look back and realize I cannot trust the media because they do not always give the correct information.

The blog that I missed on ways to use a textbook.

One way to use a textbook wisley is to just read it. Most people do not take the time to actually sit down and read the book they just skim through it. When you read the book you are actually getting all the material not just notes and this will benefit the reader more and give them more information. Another way to use a textbook wisley is to take notes on what you read after reading it so when you go back those note will refresh you on what you read. When you take notes it helps your mind soak in the material and it is another way to learn. Last but not least would be to highlight as you read. I feel when I highlight the important information I can go back and find the information I need later on alot easier. Highlighting helps you not to forget where the important parts are because now when you go back they will stick out from the rest of the paragraphs.

THE BEST THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO ME.

Everyone tend to have more than one thing that has happen to them that is really good but someone of us that are less fortunate have this thing called bad luck. Since I have been at Tech I have had alot of up's and down's.

The first good thing that has happend to me was being invited into the sorority that I wanted to be in. My sorority has been a major help so far with my education. Since, they require me to have 6 hours of studying every week I always find myself more prepared for my class's because of the study hall hours. My sorority has also pushed me to get more involved with organizations around school I am required to be in atleast two other activities so I will really get involved.

I also have very bad luck I seem to always find myself with tough decisions or with just getting in trouble. Especially when it comes down to the dorm room living. So far my internet has stopped working, the water has stopped running, my air conditioning broke, and I go very sick. The first couple of weeks here were not the best it was a tough transition. Even though I did not get the best start I still kept going because I for one am not one to give up.

I can honestly say that I feel like I have no been at Tech long enough to have a BEST thing that has happened to me. With that said I expect to have more than just one and that I better have alot of goods experiences while I am here. So who know's maybe one day my bad luck will turn into Great luck and from their on out I will have many good things to talk about but so far i have very few.

The continuation of Chapter..

Chapter 4 Confidence Building and Goal Setting.
This Chapter to me is very important because it sheds light on self esteem in individuals. Many students struggle with self image and self confidence which pushes them to feel like an outcast. I for one have always maintained very high confidence, yet that is not alway a good thing because some may mistake my confidence for being concieted. Anyway, having good self esteem with help with having a posotive mind set which allows you to accomplish alot more obsticles. One thing I hate seeing is when my friends get bothered by what others might say about him/her because honestly who cares what other people think of you, if your happy then they don't matter. Another part of chapter 4 says to accept the small success which to me means bigger is not better and that people need to stop taking things for granted are start appreciating the smaller things in life, and yes the smaller things are important to. The last thing I'm going to talk about in this Chapter is Goal Setting. Goal Setting is very important if you have a goal then you always have something to reach, always have something to keep you inline, never let someone tell you that you can't reach your goal because only you alone can make that decision.

Chapter 5
Minimizing and Managing Stress
Stress Aka the excuse for most peoples break outs
Before today I thought stress could only be a negative emotion but after reading chapter 4 i realized that stress can also be positive. Positive stress can actually motivate you to work harder and get the things you want. Along with stress comes stress management which basically informs you that intimes of stress to do some excercising or just something physical. In doing thing you with relieve some of the stress because come on basically every once inwhile you just gotta get your anger out and working out is a good way to do it. Another thing you need to make sure you do is get enough sleep and last but not least take time for your self. Examples: Get a massage, Get your nails done, or just something that is for you. It's your "ME TIME"

Chapter 6
Multi-Sensory
Chapter 6 was not my favorite I didn't find myself connecting with it at all and I actually found it extremely boring. I did realize I am a visual learner though but I already knew that. But others who do not know what type of learner they are should take the quiz because it will help them in there learning process further down the road.

I am still completely lost on how to look at other people sites so I will probably need a manuel to figure it out.
Oh but I loved Laurens Blog!!!!!!!

Chapters 1 2 & 3, and where I study

The first chapter explains how every college student is now starting a new chapter in there life and at times it may be stressful and overwhelming. It then goes on to explain to u to take your time when you are makin decisions and most of all try not to be a worry wart. The chapter ends on suggestions on how to have a posotive attitude.
Leading onto the second chapter it tells you what you as a new student should expect from the first week of school and gives you tips on how to get threw it. It gives you advice on what to do during the first day of class and basically gives you the run down.
Last but not least we get to chapter 3 basically the end of day one. Chapter three shows you that if you have confidence then you can have success. You must also learn how to remember things even though for most people it may be difficult like me who can read a paragraph over and over again but yet I can not remember one thing from that paragraph. Then is shows a paragraph on how to learn better. The chapter ends with ways on explaining the different ways of communication with your class and your instructors. If your struggling then go to your professor or speak up in class and be an active listener. Keep up your grades and if you are struggling find some help with a tutor or in the library.
So basically the whole concept of the first 3 Chapters explain to you as a new student you need to use your resources, learn how to study, and be involved in class.

Last but not least my place I found to studdy is on the top of the hill next to my dorm room because people are rarely there and I find it peaceful to be outside.
